On a steep path you make your way up to the Stifter Obelisk - it was built in honor of the poet Adalbert Stifter, who was very influential in the Bohemian Forest. The distant view and the view of the "Eye of God", the Plöckensteinersee, are simply awesome!

Adalbert STIFTER (1805 to 1868) is honored here with a stone obelisk. He is remembered primarily as a writer, but he was also a teacher and painter. His fellow writer Thomas Mann (Nobel Prize winner for literature) paid tribute to him: "Stifter is one of the strangest, most secretly bold and most strangely gripping storytellers in world literature."

The publisher's information on the stories "The Condor" and "The Heath Village," which were published in 1840, states that they: "establish Stifter's literary success. Here he already deals with themes that remain decisive for his work: the inner loneliness of the artist, the broken love of his youth and nature, which Stifter knows how to describe in a tentative and at the same time scientifically precise way."
