The Plöckenstein is known for its "Stone Sea", typical granite rocks, such as those found on the Dreisesselberg and the Lusen summit. It offers a wonderful view to the south, and when the foehn wind blows, you can see the chain of peaks of the Alps from the Totes Gebirge to the Kaiser Mountains. The Czech side of the mountain is the core zone of the Šumava/Bohemian Forest National Park.
