        The T34, the most built and most shot down Soviet standard tank of the Second World War, became the monumental tank par excellence. Technical or monument preservation issues hardly played a role in the selection of the exhibits. At the end of the 1960s, the nearly thirty-year-old tanks left active army stocks. What could be more natural than dedicating a few well-preserved specimens to monuments? Many of the tanks even drove on their monument base under their own power.
