The state district court and post office were located in Solms' buildings near the castle until 1910. In 1906, Prince Friedrich II zu Solms registered his own needs with his tenants and offered to build new premises elsewhere for the district court, prison and post office. This is how the princely master builder Deutschmann created the massive building with a fieldstone base and eye-catching half-timbered gables outside the city district at that time. In January 1912, judges, clerks and jailers moved into the new building. The prison with 3 cells was used until 1930, the district court closed in 1950.
The old courtroom and the judge's room are now used by the local history museum and the library.
