The plan for the associated park is said to have been drawn up by Peter Joseph Lenné. It was initially planned to relocate the Stockhausen studio for electronic music from the WDR in Cologne-Ossendorf to Mödrath Castle. In 2017, however, Haus Mödrath was renovated by an anonymous buyer and brought into a foundation.

Mödrath Castle is not a castle in the true sense of the word. It was built around 1830 as a mansion by the then owner of the Mödrather Mühle, a merchant named Arend. Since the house was very large, the locals soon called it just "the Mödrath Castle".
Today the castle houses an art center.
