The Hirschbachschwelle is located near the border with the neighboring Šumava National Park at an altitude of 1090 meters. It is located northeast of the Frauenau drinking water reservoir and is also called the "Alte Schwelle" on some maps.

The Hirschbachschwelle invites you at about 6km (start = Buchenau) for the first major rest. It's hard to believe that proper forestry was practiced here in the old days. More information can be found on an information board.
