The Civic Tower is one of the three surviving of four former fortification towers of the city. It was built in 1247 when the city was founded.
To protect the city from attacks, not only the shooters resorted to the weapon. For protection, the entire able-bodied population was called.
The section of the city wall in the area of the citizen tower had the Salzkottener citizens to defend.
The city of Salzkotten has placed the civic tower in 1982 under monument protection.
