Pałac na Wodzie / Palace on the Islet / Der Łazienki-Palast - the absolute highlight of the Lazienki Park

The Palace on the Isle in the Royal Łazienki Park in Warsaw is a classicist residence, originally a baroque Baths pavilion (1683–1689), rebuilt in the years 1772–1793 by Dominik Merlini for King Stanisław August Poniatowski. It is situated on an artificial island, connected to the mainland by two bridges.

The palace was the king's summer residence, the place of the famous Thursday dinners and balls. After Poniatowski's death, it belonged to his family, and then from 1817 to Tsar Alexander I. In 1944, it was plundered and burned by the Germans, but they were unable to blow it up.

The reconstruction lasted until 1965, and the interiors were reconstructed. In the years 2012–2015, a thorough renovation was carried out, including strengthening the terraces, repairing the roof and conserving the sculptures. Currently, the palace is an independent museum institution.
