In the 90s, an inventory of still existing varieties was first made for the orchard country variety garden Ellern, whereby the determination alone was problematic due to the lack of documentation.
From 1996/97 to 2000 the varieties found were raised as a one-year "Reiser" on "Bittenfeld Seedling" as a base for standard trees. At the end of 2000 these were then planted in the 3.3 hectare regional variety garden in Ellern.
