Erratic boulders, also called "erratic blocks", are mostly single, large blocks of rock that have been drifted (transported and deposited) to their present location by glacial currents in the ice ages. Depending on the type of rock, they also indicate that an area belongs to certain glacier zones. In this way, particularly characteristic trained "bed attachments", which reconstruct the areas of origin and flow directions of the glaciers, by comparing them with the rock in Scandinavia.

How do the stones get to Henstedt-Ulzburg?
The face of our landscape has been shaped by the last two ice ages. The Saale ice age (approx. 230,000 110,000 years BC) supplied the material for the Ulzburg district, while the Vistula ice age (approx. 90,000-10,000 years BC) only reached Henstedt. Towards the south we find large areas of melt water, the so-called Tangstedter Sander (Vistula Ice Age). The melt water of the Vistula ice age flowed through the valley of today's Pinnau into the glacial valley of the Elbe. In today's upper reaches of the Alster, a melt water reservoir formed during the Vistula ice age.

Not only a boulder garden built during the National Socialist era, but also a memorial for those who died in the First and Second World Wars on the Beckersberg site.

Well ... erratic blocks. Neither particularly large nor impressive
