According to tradition, the Franzosenstein is a reminder of fallen soldiers from 1809. Originally there was a high wooden cross here.
During the Napoleonic Wars, there were also armed conflicts in the Leonding area and skirmishes in the rear area during the battle of Ebelsberg on May 3, 1809. Austrians and French complained of a large number of deaths. According to tradition, such memorial stones mark the sites of mass graves.
