Adlitz Castle had been owned by those of Rabenstein since 1374. In 1471 the property was split up into a Bamberg and a Palatinate part. The baroque castle owes its present appearance to the construction work of Christian Friedrich von Rabenstein between 1682 and 1718. After the death of the last Rabenstein knight captain Peter Joh. Albrecht von Rabenstein in 1742, Adlitz came to the heirs who were married to von Brand and von Reitzenstein. 1786 - 1799 all parts of the manor were acquired by the barons von Seefried auf Buttenheim, whose family property is still in use today. In 1851 the manor was allodified. Structural changes were carried out by the barons of Seefried from the middle of the 18th century. The family restored the castle and palace complex from 1971 to 2004.

Since the castle is privately owned, it cannot be visited. A sign at the entrance indicates this to the visitor.

Adlitz Castle was the scene of various devil sagas. According to tradition, the devil in Adlitz unsuccessfully tried to seduce Martin Luther and dissuade him from the right faith. A room in the castle is therefore still called the "devil's room".
