Bike Touring Highlight
A beautiful mill and of course a very good restaurant. After refreshment, a bike tour or walk to the adjacent nature reserve Aper Tief is recommended.

This place is interesting in three ways, because here there is an outdoor pool, a historic mill and the inn right next to each other.

Very good restaurant with an extraordinary terrace that conveys a garden atmosphere and an excellent menu.
But even the small hunger is not neglected here.
- During the high season, barbecue afternoons (buffet) are held regularly, but you have to register in advance because they are usually fully booked very quickly.

Favorite Place Sculptures
The sculptures of "Aper's favorite places" are intended to underline the special features of the selected locations and are available to the entire public. The works of art are all made of steel to evoke the industrial past - with ironworks and steel mills. In addition, the globe, as a symbol of Aper Touristik, is built into each sculpture in different ways. The art objects come from the Oldenburg artist Jörg Ridderbusch, who adapts the objects to the respective locations in a humorous and playful manner.

On August 14, 1742, the builder and master miller Tönjes Brunken received the concession from the government of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg to produce peeled barley, pearl barley and groats for cutting oil. In the following year Brunken sold the mill to the East Frisian Harm Conrads. Harm Conrads bequeathed the mill to his son Conrad, who in turn passed on to his son Johann Georg. Since Johann Georg Conrads had no children, the Hengstford Mühle passed to Christoph Böhlje after his death in 1839. The mill was owned by the Böhlje family for a total of five generations. In 1882 the old mill was torn down and replaced by a new one in the same place. The mill continued to operate until the Second World War. Only then was he hired.

A lightning strike later made the mill unusable and so it was demolished in 1952, down to the stone octagonal. The fallow land was still inhabited until the late 1990s. After the death of the last resident, the listed miller's house was handed over to the new owners and the conversion to a country inn with restaurant was pushed ahead. The Hengstford mill itself has been owned by the municipality of Apen since 1984. The mill was rebuilt between 1996 and 1998 with funding from the European Union, agriculture, other businesses and donations from citizens of the municipality of Apen. The mill is operated by the mill association founded in 1996 in the municipality of Apen e.V. [1]
