The place is in the Aubachtal at 230 m above sea level. NN on the state road 2317 between Neuhütten and Partenstein. The Kahltal-Spessart cycle path runs through the town, the Main-Spessart railway runs on the outskirts, and Wiesthal train station is to the west of the town.

Krommenthal was first mentioned on February 3, 1518 as a glassworks.
In 1862 the district office of Aschaffenburg was formed, on whose administrative territory Krommenthal lay. On January 1, 1880, however, Krommenthal came to the Lohr am Main district office on the occasion of the reform of the layout of the Bavarian district offices. As everywhere in the German Reich, the designation Landkreis was introduced in 1939. Krommenthal was now one of the 26 communities in the district of Lohr am Main (license plate LOH). With the dissolution of the district of Lohr, Krommenthal came into the newly formed district of Main-Spessart in 1972 (license plate KAR, from 1979 MSP).
On January 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality was incorporated into Wiesthal.
