Neuhütten is a municipality in the Main-Spessart district of Lower Franconia. The main town of the same name is the seat of the municipal administration. The original place name Breidenstein consists of the Middle High German words wide and stein. It means “wide rock.” After the village was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, new huts were built. This is where today’s place name comes from. It consists of the Old High German niuwe and the word hut.Breydenstein was first mentioned in a Mainz document in 1349 as one of four glassworks in the Spessart. It was not until 1513 that Neuhütten was used as a place name for the first time. As part of the Archbishopric of Mainz, Neuhütten fell to the newly formed Principality of Aschaffenburg under the Prince Primate of Dalberg in the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss in 1803, with which (now a department of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt) it became part of Bavaria in 1814. As part of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818.Source: Wikipedia
