Despite numerous documents, the history of the sand mill is only vaguely known. The earliest document that reports on a sand mill in Huckingen dates from 1448. It is preserved in a copy from the 16th century. It is reported that the sand mill belonged to the dukes of Jülich and Berg.

Hiking

The sand mill is the last former grain mill in the south of Duisburg. It stands in the corner of Angerbach and Bruchgraben on a sandy ridge that gave it its name. The archaeological finds go back to the 11th century. The building has its origins in a high medieval aristocratic residence from the 12th century. The "sand moelen" was first mentioned in documents in 1448. Today's mill building was built in several construction phases over a period of around 700 years.
