The 1,241-meter-high Kandel is considered a popular local mountain in Waldkirchen. It's undoubtedly one of the best passes I've ever ridden in Germany. But also certainly one of the toughest. A 12-kilometer climb with an average gradient of 8.2 percent will make your thighs burn.

The Kandel can compete well with some mountains of the Alps 🏔👍

A real classic in the southern Black Forest.

Among South Baden racing cyclists, the Kande is considered one of the toughest mountains in the southern Black Forest. At least the numbers bear that out. With 12 kilometers and an average gradient of 8.2%, the ascent from Waldkirch does not need to hide at all from legendary Alpine climbs such as Alpe d'Huez and is roughly in the same league.
