Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was born here as the second of twelve children.
Haydn's setting of the poem Gott! get Franz, the Kaiser, Our good Emperor Franz !, the Kaiserlied, became the Austrian Imperial anthem and later became the German national anthem with a different text.
A museum has been set up in the house, entry EUR 5, opening times: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., closed on Mondays

Joseph Haydn was born on March 31, 1732 in the thatched-roof farmhouse that the master wheelwright Mathias Haydn built around 1728 and spent the first six years of his life there. On September 13, 1737, his brother Michael, also highly talented in music, was born. Even though the two composers left their parents' home when they were still children, they still remained connected to their birthplace for life.
