Privately rebuilt, previously dilapidated chapel. Now one of many in the area ... If you are into something like that, you can even walk along a kind of pilgrimage route here.

One of the oldest and at the same time newest chapels in the Burgenland military parish is the “Vitus Chapel” near the “Parndorfer Hof”. Although the visitation reports of the late 19th century mention two nearby chapels, one of which was "undetectable" at that time, geographical information and the simple construction of the chapel suggest that it could be the Vitus chapel, which was from Croatian immigrants. In any case, the year 1822 is engraved on a side wall
The chapel, which is located today on the “Burgenland Way of St. James”, which was built in 2013, is right on the border of the military training area. In September, the deputy officer Josef Hatos came up with the idea of renovating the small, totally dilapidated church - which he initially thought was an old sentry box. In Anton Gabriel and Oskar Prandstötter from Parndorf, he found two enthusiastic colleagues.

In a record-breaking time, the little church was not only excavated two meters from the ground, but also completely rebuilt. Old building materials - matching the basic substance - were kindly donated by “Beppo” Haubenwallner from the Mönchhof village museum and Michael Krasanovsky from Parndorf, the chapel bell and a splinter cross made of shrapnel from the military parish. A scallop shell carved from old sandstone - by the hobby artist Erich Kettner from Frauenkirchen - also found a suitable place in the chapel. The current miraculous image, a sandstone sculpture of St. James, was donated by the 2nd training company of the army troop school. This figure was blessed in the Lower Austrian pilgrimage site of Maria Taferl in September.
Today a lattice gate allows a glimpse into the rescued chapel room on the statue of St. James and a cast iron cross. A petition bell should invite to prayer.
