The Neetze flows in a north-westerly direction and flows into Fahrenholz, east of Winsen (Luhe), into the Ilmenau, which has been developed into the Ilmenau Canal here.
The river has several branches. The Neetze Canal branches off northwest of Neetze and flows into the Ilmenau west of Barum (♁Location). Between Echem and Lüdershausen the river widens to the Reihersee and in the northeast of Barum to the Barumer See.
