Tips

  • The Neckarelz Concentration Camp Memorial served as a concentration camp in 1944/45. Up to 3,000 prisoners were forced to work under inhumane conditions on the "Goldfish" armaments project. The memorial presents this history in four themed rooms and is open on Sundays.

  • The Neckarelz concentration camp was a branch of the Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp from March 1944 to March 1945. Several thousand forced laborers and concentration camp prisoners were placed in and around Neckarelz, who were to build tunnels in the mountains above the Neckar bank on the other side of the Neckar near Obrigheim. Aircraft engines from Daimler-Benz-Motoren GmbH were to be manufactured here.
As a concentration camp, the camp in Neckarelz was an essential part of the Neckar camp. Today there is a museum in the Neckarelz concentration camp memorial and the history trail Goldfish Trail near Obrigheim, which u. a. leads to the tunnels with the code names goldfish and bream, to the warehouse and the underground factory. The Clemens Brentano School was built in 1908/09 as a common elementary school for Protestant and Catholic school children in Neckarelz and is now a listed building.
From April 1944 to May 1945 the school building was used as a camp for Nazi prisoners under inhumane conditions. (cbs-mosbach.de)
