Up until the bombing raids in 1942, there were five single gabled houses on the north side of Universitätsplatz. Only in 1986 was this vacant lot closed with the construction of the five-gable house.

The prefabricated concrete parts were given individual façades with arbors and bay windows. Many artists from Rostock and the region made the building unique.
