The mill was already built in 1767 as a grain and oil mill on the Seffersbach, acquired by Villeroy & Boch in 1922, and converted into a precision engineering workshop by Johann Peter Hartfuß in 1927. The machines were driven by a water turbine on the dammed Seffersbach and transmission belts. Here, Hartfuß also developed the 'Cardan' wedding ring engraving machine, which he patented in 1928 – to this day, initials can be engraved live into wedding rings here. The renovation was awarded the Saarland Monument Preservation Prize in 1997.
