Wacholder Valley

Just a short walk from Altwarp you will find yourself in a beautiful juniper forest. Even though this type of tree is not unusual for the region, the density of common juniper is particularly high here.The fact that this amazing forest still exists today is thanks to a few brave foresters. During the GDR era, they prevented the trees from being cut down due to a lack of timber and replaced with pine trees.

Not far from Altwarps there is a remarkable, juniper-grown area, the juniper grove. Although the common juniper is common in the local area, it occurs in large quantities and very beautiful forms in the juniper grove. At the same time, with a stand of pine trees over 120 years old, it creates a strange contrast that can definitely be described as unspoilt.

You can walk on wonderful soft forest paths here in the Wacholdertal not far from Altwarp. The valley got its name quite rightly, because here you will find an unusual density of fragrant juniper trees.
