It is designed as a savings lock with three savings pools southwest of the lock pool.

The lock has its own command station, but has been operated remotely from the WSV's regional headquarters in Kriegenbrunn since 2007. The locks Eibach, Kriegenbrunn and Erlangen are also controlled from there. From 2024, twelve locks will be controlled from the Nuremberg control center, and later all 16 channel locks.
