The complex is the ancestral seat of the Barons of Weiler, the former local lords who rebuilt the castle in the centre of Weiler in 1588 as a moated castle in place of a previous building. Their coat of arms dated 1590 is displayed above the main portal in the east. The main building in the south, a northern extension with a small tower and two side wings in the west enclose an inner courtyard. The oldest part of the building is probably the castle kitchen on the ground floor, which may have been the base of the residential tower of the previous building. The last resident of the family was Marie Luise Baroness von Weiler, after whose death the ancestral castle was sold by the family who lived at Lichtenberg Castle.

The centuries-old horse chestnut tree♁⊙ in the castle park with a trunk circumference of over six metres is one of the largest and oldest of its kind in Germany. The veteran tree, which is designated as a natural monument and entered into the list of distinctive and old tree specimens in Germany, is estimated to be 300-500 years old according to various sources. Its monumental, gnarled trunk branches out at a low height into several trunk-thick branches. Three of these, rising steeply upwards, form the candelabra-like high crown. Two more branch off at an angle from the trunk. Several breakout points on the trunk are evidence of earlier, deep cross branches. A measurement in 2014 showed a circumference of 6.51 m and a height of the tree of 26 m.

The large palace park to the west of the building, newly laid out in the 19th century by the Stuttgart court gardener Johann Wilhelm Bosch (1782-1861), is bordered by the Nonnenbach, which comes from Lichtenstern and flows outside the town into the Schlierbach tributary of the Sulm.

To the east of the castle grounds is Weiler's Protestant parish church, built in 1399 as a castle chapel. To the southeast, several outbuildings were added until they were demolished after 2013, including the former Weiler Rentamtei, an ornamental half-timbered building from 1559. As of March 2021, the area is empty, and the planned construction of residential buildings there has not yet taken place.

The gate was also closed today (May 2021). The castle is privately owned.
