Burgpreppach Castle is located in the center of the Burgpreppach market in the Haßberge district (Lower Franconia). The large, unfinished baroque complex is still inhabited and can only be visited by appointment and on special occasions.

The Lords of Breitebach (Preppach) originally lived in the town. In the 12th century, a “Gerung” and a “Runold von Breitebach” were documented. In the High Middle Ages, the people of Preppach were servants of the Counts of Henneberg, and later control passed to the Lords of Milz.

Burgpreppach has been owned by the Fuchs since the early 14th century, whose numerous branch lines were each named after their residences. However, the Fuchs von Burgpreppach died out in the 16th century. The Fuchs von Bimbach inherited the property. Today the male line of this old Franconian noble family has died out; the current lady of the castle is the daughter of the last baron of this name.
