If you ride the Emsradweg from Rietberg to Wiedenbrück, you can hardly miss these larger-than-life figures! Unfortunately, we did not have enough time to look into the Bible Museum. We'll catch up on that next time.

If you leave the town of Rietberg on the Ems Cycle Path in the direction of Wiedenbrück, you will reach the Bible Village with its unique collection of sculptures after a few 100 meters. Quoting The Bell:
Planet path from the Bible Village to the city
Rietberg (bv) - A beautiful woman dancing out of a planet that opens like an opulent dress: This is how the local artist Angelo Monitillo designed Venus. He used different precious metals. The slender legs are molded from Mercedes fenders.
The earth is one of five planetary sculptures that show the way from the Bible Village to the city.
The work of art is part of the planetary trail in Rietberg, which is probably unique in this form and has now been officially opened. Monitillo worked on this sculpture for four weeks. It took him just as long for his idiosyncratic interpretations of Mercury, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, which are located along the Ems between the Bible Village and the entrance to the Rietberg Garden Show Park, orbiting around the sun, which shines from within in the dark.

Uranus and Neptune come later. According to Pastor Dietrich Fricke, the distances between the individual planets are true to scale: "If Pluto still existed as a planet, it would be somewhere in Westerwiehe." tennis ball".
As a reminder of the steadily increasing global warming, Monitillo put a pot lid on the earth at the upper polar cap. He dyed the metal representing the seas blue with the help of a welding flame. The depiction of the red planet is bizarre: “I made Mars, which is named after the Roman god of war, nasty with bombs and weapons because wars are cruel,” explained Monitillo. It was not that easy to get the material, such as a disused steel helmet or an empty hand grenade.
Around 30 art figures by the native Italian already adorn the Bible Village. Fricke: “One day Monitillo brought us a beggar who is now sitting in the city gate. We then commissioned camels and many other sculptures.” The idea was born to connect the Bible Village, which paid part of the cost, and the historic city center with the newly created planetary path. The cultural foundation of the Sparkasse Rietberg and the Gartenschaupark-GmbH also supported the project financially. Mayor André Kuper, also chairman of the park's supervisory board, did not provide any information on the amount of the investment when asked. Twelve tenth year high school students designed the information pillars for the planet path under the supervision of Heinz-Hermann Miley.
