The first storage facility in Friedersdorf was a one-storey flat-floor storage facility from 1891, built by Albert von der Marwitz, the lord of Friedersdorf at the time.
In 1922, Bodo von der Marwitz commissioned the granary to be expanded with four more storage floors. On November 10, 1922, the construction of today's storage facility began and was put into operation with the start of the harvest in 1923. Grain was stored in the warehouse until 1990. After the political change in the GDR, it was no longer needed. There were now better techniques for drying grain. What remained was the dominant building, doomed to decay.
On September 1, 1991, the first exhibition "Art from the Oderbruch No. 1" was opened. This was practically the birth of the art storage idea and the founding of the association "Freundeskreis Friedersdorf e.V." with the purpose of promoting home care and local history, art and culture, monument protection and monument preservation.
