Bike Touring Highlight
One of seven locks on the Rhine-Herne Canal. Until 1967, the then non-self-propelled barges were decoupled from the canal tug and pulled by a tow locomotive through the lock chamber. The locks were needed to overcome the height differences of the canal. The lock process is always fascinating.

This lock is located in Herne-Crange on the Rhine-Herne Canal. Not far from the lock, the Cranger Kirmis takes place once a year.

The lock Herne-Ost belongs - from the Rhine - to the last of the five canal stages of the Rhine-Herne Canal in Herne. The twin lock is at canal kilometer 37.26.
