Groote Heide Nature Reserve

We moved through the southern part of the "Grooten Heide" last year, today we enter the heathland from the north through a gate on Louisenburgweg; We roam in amazement between the almost tame sheep of a large herd that rests and chews on the short-grazed meadows in the morning sun.
Directly behind it, the wooden-concrete walls of a former (?) shooting range rise up martially, which in turn finds the necessary security closure with high earth walls at the back.
Bizarre sight.
Glowing birch groves, evergreen pines and warm yellow grass plains provide an idyllic counterpoint; the military loses its horror in nature and even becomes the framework for glimpses into it. A well-placed bank in the middle, but we don't take the time to look at it now.
A beautiful, impressive area in a small space, the whole "Groote Heide" measures just two kilometers in the west-east direction and maybe three in north-south.
