The approximately 60 meters long and over 10 meters wide rocky reef is at the highest point 58 meters high and consists of the rocks of the lower Buntsandstein (Trifelsschichten). The Asselstein was first climbed in June 1860. He belongs with his almost 80 routes, z. B. Normalweg IV, west wall V-, Rolfkamin V + and east wall V (all UIAA scale) to the larger climbing destinations in the climbing area Südpfalz. The hardest route is classified as 9+ (UIAA). Not far to the east of the rock is the climbing hut Asselstein.

One of the climbing destinations around Annweiler. I was up there once. The normal route in three pitches was a little adventure.
Right next to it is the climbing hut with a nice refreshment stop.
