The Speiersgasse and the adjacent Kaulberg belong to the early settlement core of Zeil. With its numerous listed buildings, it is one of the most beautiful and important side streets in the old town. Starting from the market square and over the Kaulberg, it runs in an exactly east-west direction to the Altach city wall, where only a narrow pedestrian gate has always allowed exit from the city. When most of the houses were built in the 17th and 18th centuries, Speiersgasse was mainly inhabited by arable citizens. This is indicated by the numerous gate entrances and large plots of land enclosed by (originally) agricultural outbuildings. Between Speiersgasse and Marktplatz is the Kaulberg, which has been characterized by a representative fountain since the city's 600th anniversary in 1979 (following the former "Speiersbrunnen"). At both ends, Speiersgasse is visually terminated: to the east, this is a residential building built in the 18th century across the street against the city wall; to the west, the steeply rising Kaulberg, reinforced by a retaining wall, with the towering parish church in the background.

The Göller brewery is also located on this street. The light beer "Baptist" is very drinkable 😉

The Speiersgasse is lined with wonderful, different half-timbered houses.
