Very big train station in Knittlingen! The station building on Bahnhofstrasse, which has never seen a regular train, is probably unique in Germany. Even before the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the BER airport in Berlin-Schönefeld there were construction sites for the history books in Germany.

Around 1906 (provincial railway era) a standard-gauge railway line was planned from Bretten to Kürnbach through Knittlingen in Württemberg. The work came to a standstill due to the First World War and was resumed in 1919. The station was built from 1919-1920. However, the work was finally stopped because of more important projects of the Reichsbahn and the devaluation of the currency.

The only train station in Germany that has never seen a train.
The narrow-gauge Zabergäubahn was to go from Bretten to Laufen am Neckar. In 1896 a section from Laufen am Neckar to Leonbronn was completed. The operation continued until 1986 with local passenger transport and in 1994 freight traffic was discontinued. In 1919 von Bretten started with the construction work but stopped in 1923. Only the rails were missing. In 1933 the plans were finally buried. The reason, according to the investigation of the Reichsbahn Gesellschaft, the railway would not bring in the operating costs. So a bad investment.
