Nice place! In summer, when the weather is good, there is even a little entertainment from time to time. Unfortunately, the site is sometimes closed.

Very nice castle located in Wurmtal.
Rode Castle in Herzogenrath in North Rhine-Westphalia was first mentioned in a document in 1104. The Counts of Saffenberg were the residents and probably also the builders. The castle is located on the border with the Netherlands and was not only a border castle, but also a customs castle. Strategically located, the castle could be found directly on an important trade route.
The fortress was so heavily developed that several attempts to take it in the 13th century failed. The reason for the experiments was probably the importance of the customs office, which was of great value, especially for the owners. In the following centuries, the owners changed again and again, so it belonged to the Duchy of Limburg, the Dukes of Brabant and the Duchy of Jülich, among others. Between 1544 and 1794 the castle was owned by the Habsburg Netherlands.
In the course of the re-congress in 1815, the border was redefined. So Rode Castle fell to Prussia. Today, regular cultural events are held at the castle.
