A place with charisma.
In this place, whichever direction you look... Antwerp shows its wealth in all its splendor. Hanza houses remind us of the good relations with German areas. Brabo makes a victory gesture on his fountain. The town hall has been restored to its glory. The peace tree, etc... in other words, a square with a history. As an alternative experience guide I can keep writing...

The Grote Markt ("Great Market Square") of Antwerp is a town square situated in the heart of the old city quarter. It is filled with an extravagant city hall, numerous elaborate 16th century guildhalls, many restaurants and cafés. Being within walking distance of the Scheldt river, it hosts a Christmas market and ice rink in winter. Like most places in Belgium...
It is a great place to visit!

The history of the Grote Markt started as a forum or square just outside the medieval residential core. Duke Hendrik I of Brabant 1165-1235 donated this communal land to the city in 1220. The name Merckt appeared for the first time in 1310. It is also around this time that the first annual fairs or forts of Brabant took place. Here English merchants did business with Italians, Spaniards, Hanseatics from the North German Hanseatic cities, South Germans and Flemings. At the end of the 15th century, Antwerp became the most important city in the Netherlands at the expense of Bruges.
