Juf "highest village in Europe inhabited all year round"
Juf is located in a barren mountain landscape at the foot of the Septimer Pass at 2,126 m above sea level. - and is considered the highest settlement in Europe that is inhabited all year round.
Juf is part of the municipality of Avers and is located in the high valley of the same name at the record-breaking height of 2,126 m above sea level. Around 22 people defy the freezing temperatures of the long winter up here, most of them as mountain farmers.
The tinkling of cow bells and marmot whistles greet the visitor. A cozy inn welcomes everyone who wants to enjoy the extraordinary atmosphere in the quiet mountain village at the end of the road for a little longer. Juf is ideal for long mountain hikes, but also for quiet days away from the hustle and bustle. The marmots are best discovered on the signposted nature trail, which is unique in the world. Chamois and ibex also live in the rocks above the settlement, with luck you can spot eagles. In winter Juf is a starting point for a variety of ski tours.
