Built in 1485, Barden Tower is a fortified house that was used as a hunting lodge by the prominent Clifford family until the 17th century. The tower has seen some dramatic history over the centuries. During the Jacobite rising in 1745, a group of militia occupied the tower to defend against the Scots army. Today, Barden Tower is mostly ruined and you can explore its crumbling walls. If you are hungry, the Priest House has been converted into a restaurant. You can find more information, here: boltonabbey.com/what-to-see/barden-tower
