Together with Toley and Weissenburg in Alsace, Klingenmünster was one of the oldest monasteries on German-speaking soil. Germany didn't exist yet, just the Merovingian Empire. Klingenmünster joined the Irish Scottish monk movement. Boniface's line prevailed. A fire in the early Middle Ages destroyed most of the documents. Therefore we know little about the early history of the monastery. Through their care yards on the right of the Rhine, they were involved in the missionary work in southern Germany.
