Beutelsbach Castle, also known as Kappelberg Castle Ruins, is the ruin of a spur castle near the Beutelsbach district of the town of Weinstadt in the Rems-Murr district in Baden-Württemberg and the oldest seat of the Württemberg family.
      History

The castle was probably built in the 11th century by the Württemberg family as their first ancestral castle. It protected the Kaiserstraße, an important road connection in the Middle Ages that led over the Schurwald into the Filstal.[1] Around 1080, the Württemberg family still called themselves Beutelsbach until they moved to Wirtemberg Castle and took its name.

The castle was probably already a ruin at that time. It was mentioned in 1252 and destroyed in 1312. The castle chapel next to the ruins was the scene of the "Poor Conrad" uprising in 1514. The facts are thin, however.

In 1968, on a hill 310 m above sea level, 1,000 people were killed. The foundations and ruins of the castle were rediscovered and uncovered during work on the vineyard clearing on a spur of 1,000 m above sea level.[2] The archaeologists only had two weeks to carry out an emergency excavation. Due to the leveling work carried out at the time, new results would hardly be expected today.

The ruins subsequently reconstructed do not correspond to scientific findings.[3] Nevertheless, the ruins are one of the most historically significant sites in the country.
