A landmark of Höchst is the castle with the Gothic keep and the Renaissance building from the 16th century, the so-called New Castle.
Today the castle houses the museums for Höchst History and Hoechst AG and invites you to the “Höchst Castle Festival” every summer.

Very nice location. A side trip is always worthwhile, not only because of the café there.

Very nice castle in the old town of Höchst. In summer, the highly recommended short film festival "Shots at Moonlight" takes place there in the palace gardens.
Hopefully this can happen again soon.

The Old Höchst Palace is an outstanding cultural and historical monument in the region and bears witness to the historical power struggle between the trading city of Frankfurt and the Archdiocese of Mainz in the Middle Ages. It was expanded into one of the most important Renaissance castles on the Main and today, together with the Justinuskirche, forms the historical core of Höchst. There has probably been a castle here since Ottonian times, which was expanded into a customs fortress in the 14th century. Angry about the customs duties, it was attacked by the Frankfurt City Council in 1396 and partially destroyed. The lower part of the towering round tower, the so-called bergfried, is the oldest part of the complex still preserved today and dates from this period. At the end of the 16th century, the powerful Archbishop of Mainz expanded the complex into one of the most magnificent Renaissance palaces on the Main. During this construction phase, the massive keep was also raised, and since then it has been crowned with a stone dome with a lantern.

During the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) large parts of the castle fell into ruins, which were demolished in the 18th century. In addition to the main tower, only the north-eastern part with the gatehouse and corner round tower was preserved.
The German Foundation for Monument Protection took over the palace complex in 2002 and has been responsible for its preservation ever since. Thanks to extensive work by the private foundation, the old castle is once again a living place of history. In Höchst Castle there is a small museum, offices and a restaurant.

On the Schlossplatz there is not only an old, sprawling oak tree to admire, but also the castle, idyllic alleys and inns with traditional Hessian cuisine. On the banks of the Main, a ferry takes guests to the Schwanheim dune on the opposite bank.
