The historic neon sign - known among Leipzigers as the "Spoon Family" - hangs on the outer wall of the former VEB Feinkost Leipzig site, now known as the Feinkost Cultural Center.

This place looks back on a varied and long history.
The site was originally founded as a brewery in 1853 and later, from 1921, used as a production facility for canned fruit and vegetables. After the Second World War, the facility was converted into a state-owned company (VEB) for delicatessen products, where mainly canned goods were produced. A striking reminder of this time is the neon-lit "Spoon Family" sign, which was installed in 1973 and is now considered a cultural monument.

The former factory site is a lively center of the art and creative scene in Leipzig. The art and trade cooperative Feinkost eG operates the site, which houses a cinema, various shops, offices and catering establishments, among other things. It is an example of how industrial sites can be successfully transformed into cultural meeting places.

The transformation of industrial sites into cultural centers is an exciting aspect of urban development that can be observed in many cities around the world. The delicatessen site in Leipzig is an outstanding example of such a successful transformation.
