The district harbor of Rendsburg is on the other north side of the canal.

The district harbor of Rendsburg is located directly on the Kiel Canal, in the middle of Schleswig-Holstein, at the intersection of three traffic routes with Europe-wide importance:

the Kiel Canal as a connection between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea
    the A7 motorway
the main railway line in north-south direction

The port is one of the leading transshipment points for bulk goods of all kinds in Schleswig-Holstein, in particular for fertilizers, grain, animal feed, building materials, wood and mineral oil as well as for containers and RoRo cargo.

The railway high bridge in RD, the "Iron Lady" - as it is affectionately called - normally carries a special means of transport under its steel structure: a suspension ferry. After a ship collision in January 2016, it was irreparably destroyed. A new building is in the process of being put into service in September 2020.
