The Romans were in the area until the middle of the third century. On the north side of the Königsbach church, the image of a riding woman is worked into the wall: the goddess Epona, it is assumed. Also, a few meters to the left above the Epona picture, there is an "unknown beauty", a stone woman's face, walled into the north wall; one suspects that it is a fragment of Roman-Celtic religiosity.

A priest was first mentioned in Königsbach in 1295, followed by the parish church in 1335. The oldest part of today's church building is the tower, which was built around 1200 as a free-standing defensive tower. The choir and the sacristy were built after the destruction of the Thirty Years' War. In 1740 the sacristy had to be rebuilt due to dilapidation.

The tombstones on the south wall outside were originally in the church.

In front of the main entrance to the church there have been three modern limestone memorial stones of different sizes and a large cross made of the same material since 1959. This memorial is intended to commemorate the last three great wars and to encourage peace.

The Königsbach Church with its striking tower, visible far beyond the valley, is located on a slope. It is the landmark of the place. Its origins go back to the Middle Ages. Inside on the north wall there are numerous epitaphs, plates and memorial stones. are. On the outer north wall there is an epona image from pre-Christian times, which probably belonged to a Celtic-Roman sanctuary.

"On the eastern edge of the district, above a steep slope to Steiner Strasse, is the Königsbach Church. With its striking tower, which greets you far across the valley, it is today as ever the symbol of the village.

The beginnings of this building reach far into the Middle Ages. Every visitor is struck by the numerous epitaphs, slabs and memorial stones that are placed inside on the north wall of the church. The image of Epona, which belonged to a Celtic-Roman sanctuary in pre-Christian times, has found its place on the outer north wall.

The churchyard wall still has a defensive character today.

The churchyard originally had a dual function as a burial and defense facility." Source: koenigsbach-stein.de/sehenswertes-koenigsbach/evangelische-kirche-ehemalige-wehrkirche-id_56

Unfortunately the church was closed on a public holiday. A pity.
