The Pastorenstein is a small memorial stone in the western part of the Heers forest area, not far from the Regenstein castle ruins. It commemorates the Börneck pastor Michaelis, who crossed the forest here on October 31, 1821 on his way home from Heimburg. It was a cold autumn day and the man of God froze to death at this spot. The exact circumstances of this are not known.
Pastor Michaelis must have been quite popular in his community. Therefore, the Börneck farmer Adolf Hinze and his wife erected this memorial stone in his honor. The forest path leading to the stone has been called the Pastorenweg ever since.
Although the Pastorenstein is almost 200 years old and no longer completely intact, the inscription carved into it can still be deciphered quite well. There are no other special features in the immediate vicinity of the memorial stone. Source: harzlife.de
