Oldenburg's city center is characterized by many small alleys that make the city seem cozy. Chicly paved, it also connects historic buildings and modern ones. Many owner-operated specialty shops and cute cafes and restaurants - not just the big chains - invite you to be a little more individual than many others. Shopping in the city center is still possible, although unfortunately parking is hardly free anymore(!). On nice days, it is almost impossible to get a seat outside in the ice cream parlors....highly recommended.
