The skyline to the sea trail has a long history. It was created in 1969, more than 53 years ago, when we realized the importance of protecting the ecosystem of the Santa Cruz Mountains rich in evergreen forests.

The Skyline-to-the-Sea trail meanders through the "Big Basin Redwood State Park" along Waddell Creek. At the beginning of October each year a marathon takes place here. The start is at the Saratoga Gap, the oldest park in California. The trail is exactly 42 kilometers long from there through the Redwoods to Waddel Beach on the Pacific Ocean.
