The "Big Basin Redwoods State Park" is a national park in the US state of California, about 36 km northwest of Santa Cruz. It is California's oldest national park, established in 1902. The original area of 15 increased over time to 73 square kilometers. It is part of the "Northern California Coastal Forests" ecoregion and is home to the largest contiguous stand of ancient redwoods south of San Francisco. The Big Basin has over 80 miles of hiking trails.
