The Lutherhaus in Eisenach is one of the oldest surviving half-timbered houses in Thuringia. According to tradition, Martin Luther lived here with the Cotta family during his school days from 1498 to 1501.

It is one of the oldest and most beautiful half-timbered houses in the city of Eisenach. Luther is said to have lived here as a student from 1498 to 1501. This makes it probably one of the most famous memories of the Reformation. The house has been a museum since 1956.

ML lived with relatives because his family came from Thuringia: his mother from Eisenach, his father from Möhra, only 20 kilometers from Eisenach. Luther first earned his living as a carol singer - like Johann Sebastian Bach later - and was eventually accepted by the influential Cotta and Schalbe families, with whom he lived, including in what is now the Luther House.
