Tips

  • A really interesting building. You have to see it:
In the middle of the First World War, Peter Behrens designed a state-of-the-art automobile factory on behalf of AEG. The lavish equipment was intended to demonstrate the unbroken productivity of German industry. At the same time, Behrens wanted to create a symbol of the social integration of all players in industrial society. At the heart of the multi-story factory, workers and directors meet in an atrium lined with arcades. Bodywork construction begins on the top floor, the production levels are connected by 18 freight elevators, and once downstairs the finished automobile is fueled from a petrol tank in the basement. Initially the factory supplied trucks for the German army and then cars and buses until it was closed in 1934. Telefunken then began to develop television technology at the site for the broadcast of the 1936 Olympic Games. After World War II, World War II saw the arrival of the television electronics factory, which during the GDR era manufactured picture tubes for television sets and whose history is documented in the Schöneweide industrial salon. 0 Deutsche Immobilien Entwicklungs AG is currently developing the building and the entire Behrens-Ufer area into a new city district. Incidentally, the atrium was also a filming location for the series Babylon Berlin.
Peter Behrens 1868-1940. The architect and world-famous industrial designer Peter Behrens designed almost everything for AEG: factory buildings and their furnishings, the products manufactured in the factories and even the company's letterhead - everything in a uniform style. Behrens is therefore considered the inventor of corporate design.

  • Here you can walk to the Spree and continue walking along it to the Spreeknie, let's hope that the path will continue to the Treskowbrücke, which is my next goal

  • As part of a guided tour from the Schöneweide industrial salon, you can also get into the tower of the building: great view in all directions.
